For Spring/Summer 2027, creative director Pharrell Williams brought the ocean to Paris, staging a spectacle with an artificial waterfall as backdrop and an original studio soundtrack. The collection explores the idea of the wave as an equaliser, framing the sea and the shore as spaces of universal belonging. It is a philosophy that Williams grounds in the shared sartorial values of two seemingly disparate archetypes: the tailored dandy and the adventurous surfer.
The core of this Louis Vuitton collection lies in this cross-cultural dialogue. Williams reinforces his signature dandy silhouette by filtering it through the more nomadic lifestyle of surf culture. The resulting designs are engineered specifically for a globetrotting man suspended between everyday life and his favourite coastal destination.
On the runway, this tension manifested in high-performance tailoring. Technical wetsuits met performance-infused fabrics, transforming traditional everyday surf staples into exercises in Louis Vuitton-style fashion. Williams utilised the House’s trompe l’oeil savoir-faire to create optical illusions that only reveal their true texture upon touch, giving familiar silhouettes a weathered, mended quality. Surf graphics heavily dictated the visual language, think bold acid colours and classic chequerboard motifs that simultaneously paid homage to skateboarding, a subculture that remains a foundational influence for Williams.
The bohemian spirit of the summer lineup was further enhanced by handwork and sea-centric embellishments including shell embroideries on casual denim. This laid-back energy was mirrored in the show’s scenic design. A cinematic prelude featuring surfers Mikey February and Julian Wilson set the tone, while a futuristic silver camper sat parked by fabricated dunes, visualising a nomadic life lived in direct contact with the elements.
Beyond the clothing and the theatrical staging, the collection tied its narrative back to the natural world that inspired it. In a tangible nod to the environmental themes woven throughout the show, Louis Vuitton announced its partnership with Coral Gardeners under its Regeneration 2030 sustainability roadmap. The initiative actively funds reef restoration in French Polynesia, targeting the out-planting of 1,000 corals at the Tiaia site to restore 250 square meters of reef habitat.
