McLaren is seeing out its defining supercar series with the introduction of the 788HS. Serving as the final evolution of a range that began with the 720S and evolved through the 765LT and 750S, this ultra-limited release collides nearly a decade of the brand’s technical prowess into a single, focused send-off. The ‘High Sport’ designation isn’t handed out lightly. McLaren has reserved the HS badge for only two models in its history: the MP4-12C HS and the MSO HS. With global production capped at just 200 units split equally between Coupe and Spider variants, the 788HS is positioned as the collector’s priority. “It represents the ultimate expression of our supercar series that began with the 720S and becomes only the third McLaren to wear our HS designation – a fitting finale for a much loved and critically acclaimed car,” explains Henrik Wilhelmsmeyer, Chief Commercial Officer of McLaren Automotive.

Through McLaren Special Operations (MSO), buyers have access to extensive bespoke options rather than standard spec sheets. Highlights include full Visual Carbon Fibre bodywork in either gloss or satin, upholstery perforation patterns and dedicated interior plaques ensuring no two examples leave the factory identical.
The Thrill Of The Drive
While the performance figures are noteworthy – 788HS climbs from 0 to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds – the emphasis remains on sensory feedback. A quad-exit titanium exhaust paired with revised sound symposer technology channels the twin-turbo V8’s acoustic profile directly into the cabin, heightening the feel of weekend drives and open roads.
A Design That Does Not Compromise Function
The redesigned exterior bodywork is not just a feast for the eyes but also illustrates the best of functional engineering. Featuring an S-Duct bonnet, a raised active rear spoiler and an F1-inspired rear diffuser, the visual carbon package increases overall downforce by 10% over the 765LT while maintaining a clean silhouette.
The Last Of An Era-Defining Series
The 788HS represents the final chapter of McLaren’s supercar series. By pairing a 1,265kg dry weight with its highest power-to-weight ratio to date (623PS per tonne), it delivers the expression of the platform before the brand moves on to its next generation.
