PEAQ by Ali Hassoun: How One Club is Transforming Middle Eastern Wellness

Dubai’s PEAQ, founded by Ali Hassoun, is redefining wellness in the Middle East. Blending recovery, social connection, and mindful performance

Wellness in the Middle East has often been framed as an accessory: a spa visit, a boutique gym, a transient indulgence. PEAQ challenges that entirely. From its Dubai base, the club presents wellness as a cultural practice – a way of living that blends recovery, performance, and social connection into a cohesive, intentional rhythm.

At the helm is Ali Hassoun, the founder whose personal journey informs every aspect of the brand. His defining insight came from an ice bath: “The second I submerged, I realised my mind had been the only barrier,” he recalls. “The cold stripped away ego, distraction, noise – leaving only breath. Resilience is not about exertion; it is about presence.” But this moment was just the start. Hassoun had faced personal burnout: “I was training hard, working long hours, and telling myself it was normal to feel depleted. Deep down, I knew something was missing. Wellness had to feel human. It had to fit life, not fight against it. That personal struggle inspired me to create PEAQ.”

Bringing PEAQ to life in Dubai was no simple feat. “There was a time when the idea of PEAQ felt impossible to bring to life. Investors didn’t fully understand recovery, and the concept of social wellness was unfamiliar,” Hassoun explains. “Every ‘no’ forced me to go deeper into the philosophy. I was willing to hold the vision even when the world didn’t see it yet.” That steadfastness shaped PEAQ into a space that is both experiential and philosophical, marrying wellness with cultural relevance.

The experience at PEAQ is immersive. Cold plunges, saunas, and movement classes are not ends in themselves but instruments for presence and transformation. “Non-performative wellness means you don’t have to prove anything. The focus is on being, not showing,” Hassoun notes. “Spaces are designed for connection, shared recovery, and group experiences that are about presence, not metrics.” Skeptics quickly find themselves converted: “They often expect wellness to be either clinical or indulgent. At PEAQ, we flip that expectation by showing them an experience. Fun and transformation aren’t opposites; they’re amplifiers of each other.”

PEAQ’s interiors reflect the same philosophy. Natural materials, earthy textures, and restrained design create a space that is simultaneously grounding and aspirational. “We built PEAQ’s interior around organic textures and earthy tones so that stepping inside feels grounding – like you’ve left the chaos of the city and reconnected with nature,” Hassoun says. Strategic collaborations with global lifestyle brands such as YSL Beauty and Eight Sleep further position PEAQ as a cultural hub, where wellness intersects with lifestyle, aesthetics, and innovation.

The club’s offerings revolve around three pillars – Recovery, Social, Zen. While these may sound simple, the lived experience is transformative. “The magic usually happens in the transitions,” Hassoun explains. “It’s the laughter after stepping out of the cold plunge together, or the quiet moment of clarity when you leave the sauna and realise your nervous system has reset. Members leave remembering not just how their body feels, but how their mood shifted—lighter, calmer, more open.”

Expansion beyond Dubai demonstrates the universality of PEAQ’s philosophy. The Ibiza pop-up translated the brand’s ethos to a global context, combining outdoor movement sessions, ice plunges under open skies, group hikes, and communal dinners. “The Ibiza pop-up marked a shift from being Dubai-based to bringing our community into another part of the world and connecting with others there,” Hassoun says. “We designed the experience to feel true to PEAQ’s philosophy: doing hard things together builds deeper bonds, and celebrating together turns wellness into connection and culture.”

Looking ahead, Hassoun’s ambition is global: “If wellness everywhere could feel social, cultural, and inclusive – not an escape, but a way of life – that is the legacy I would hope PEAQ leaves.” Through design, programming, and community-building, PEAQ demonstrates that true luxury lies not in appearances, but in the cultivation of presence, resilience, and meaningful human connection.
