Saint Laurent Productions is stepping into the spotlight at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, competing for the first time in the prestigious official selection with Father Mother Sister Brother, a new film by the singular auteur Jim Jarmusch.
Rather than a conventional narrative, Jarmusch’s latest is a triptych – three delicately interwoven stories set across three countries, each exploring the complex, often distant relationships between adult siblings and their parents. The film’s segments unfold in the northeastern United States, Dublin, and Paris, offering a quiet, observational look at family dynamics that balances moments of subtle humour with a gentle melancholy.
Describing the film as an “anti-action” piece, Jarmusch invites viewers to notice the small details – like flowers carefully arranged, that accumulate to reveal deeper emotional truths. His longtime collaborators, including cinematographers Frederick Elmes and Yorick Le Saux and editor Afonso Gonçalves, help shape these nuances into a cinematic experience that’s as poetic as it is understated.
The ensemble cast features a remarkable lineup: Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, and Françoise Lebrun, all bringing their unique presence to the film’s intimate character studies.
Presented by Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello alongside MUBI and The Apartment (a Fremantle company), the production marks a significant moment for the fashion house’s growing influence in cinema. Previously, Saint Laurent Productions made waves at Cannes with films by Pedro Almodóvar, Jean-Luc Godard, and others; now, it seeks to make an equally strong impression in Venice’s highly competitive arena.
