Following the unveiling of the all-electric Aston Martin RapidE EV concept last year, the British supercar manufacturer has confirmed that the vehicle will be going into full production – and could be sitting on your driveway by 2018.
Created in partnership with Chinese technology firm LeEco, there have been several rumours circulating about the four-wheel drive EV. Most notably, that the car will produce between 800 and 1,000 horsepower, with an impressive single charge range of 200 miles.
“Aston Martin are dedicated to developing a range of cars with low emission technologies,” said Dr Andy Palmer, Aston Martin CEO, in a press statement. “We have been encouraged by the project speed and technical depth shown by LeEco in the development of the RapidE concept towards full production. Bringing the RapidE to market by 2018 is an important milestone for both companies.”
Priced between US $200,000 and $250,000, it is thought that Aston Martin will only produce a few hundred units a year, making it a relatively exclusive offering from the boutique brand. Additionally, a sedan version of the EV vehicle will be released around the same time.
