Nine great items, available this month
From Guardians of the Galaxy to ‘Guardian of Looking Good While Travelling’ – Hollywood actor Chris Pratt became a brand ambassador for Tumi, the high-end luggage, lifestyle and accessory brand, earlier this year. Now he has chipped in with his design ideas, helping to launch the Tumi x Chris Pratt capsule collection.
This is a collaboration between Pratt himself and Tumi’s creative director, Victor Sanz. The result is a nine-piece collection, featuring suitcases, backpacks, laptop cases and packing cubes. The aesthetic of each case is defined by striking orange accents, with recycled nylon in the body material and recycled plastic in the lining. USB ports are also featured for charging on the go – battery banks not included.
Highlights include the 2-in-1 Backpack Duffel, which is a completely new item, with a convertible style, worn as a backpack or carried as a duffel bag, and carry straps that tuck away when not in use. As well as using recycled materials, with Tumi’s first USB port in a bag style, it has waterproof-lined pockets with air vents for shoes, wet clothing or a water bottle. Available in small and large sizes, limited and numbered.
Also look for the Short Trip Front Lid Expandable Packing Case and International Front Lid Carry On, inspired by Tumi’s Alpha Bravo collection. Both cases are made with recycled materials, and have split case and front lid openings. Grab handles can be found on the outside, with helpful compartments inside. The Carry On has a USB port.
There is the Large Travel Laptop Case too, suitable for laptops up to 15in, with multiple zips and a padded tablet pocket, plus a water-resistant external pocket for an umbrella or water bottle. The Reno Kit is perfect for toiletries and skincare products, with a waterproof U-zip, and a side clip for attaching to a towel rail.
The packing cubes come in three different sizes, and are said to be some of Pratt’s all-time favourite travel accessories. A S’well 17oz bottle and a Rubik’s Cube, bringing fun and refreshment to the art of travel, round out the range, while the Chinese market will also get a Surefire flashlight.
Pratt himself said, “On my travels, it’s important to have something that roots me and makes me feel like I’m at home – my luggage is one of those things, because it’s one of the only constants I have in my hotel room. I live out of my Tumi, and the things it carries remind me of home. Anywhere I go, I can turn my hotel room into my bedroom, and it always comes out of the same luggage.
“After using Tumi for the past 10 years, it was really exciting for me to get to design my own line and create my own items with all of the personal touches I love. Working with Victor and the design team was a really new and eye-opening experience – it’s something I’ve never done before, and it really showed me the attention to detail that goes into creating each bag. I’m so happy with the collection and look forward to others enjoying it.”
