With Joaquin Phoenix on the set
Joker is performing very well at cinemas around the world, both critically and commercially. There are many calling for Joaquin Phoenix’s turn as Arthur Fleck – the man on a downward trajectory, who becomes the iconic Batman villain – to be awarded an Oscar, while the film is on-track to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time.
Director Todd Phillips took to Instagram over the weekend to reveal a collection of behind-the-scenes images, where he is shown working with Phoenix on various scenes. The movie also features Robert De Niro, and takes its influences from a string of Martin Scorsese classics, such as Taxi Driver, Mean Streets and The King of Comedy.
Rather than kick-starting a franchise, the film is intended to be a standalone, and unrelated to the upcoming reboot, The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson in the lead role. Joker is screening now at cinemas across the UAE.
