What the restaurants and hotels are offering
The countdown begins. Ten… nine… eight… So where will you be? There are plenty of places to see in the New Year in Dubai, with parties, meals and fireworks galore. If you haven’t booked anywhere yet, and you’re in the mood for a party, the following list should help:
Atlantis, The Palm
Fancy seeing in 2020 on a special deck out in the ocean, with a roaring ’20s theme and a 30-piece live band? This is the flagship event at Atlantis, The Palm, with a buffet and live cooking stations, and adult prices starting at AED3,300 each. The hotel’s restaurants also have special menus and entertainment. Prices vary. Call 04 426 2626.
This French restaurant on the first floor of the Fairmont Dubai hotel has live music on New Year’s Eve, with Guillaume Etheve flying in from Paris, plus DJs and a saxophonist. Book a first seating from 7.30pm, or second seating from 9.30pm – the lounge area is also available for drinks. A minimum spend applies in each case. Call 04 354 5035.
Head to La Mer in Jumeirah for The Bungalow’s first ever New Year’s Eve. You’ll be able to catch La Mer’s fireworks display from the two-floor beachside venue, with classic party tunes and a number of food-and-drink packages, starting at AED300. Bvlgari Yacht Club
A special seafood set menu awaits at the Bvlgari Yacht Club Restaurant this New Year’s Eve. The venue will adopt a blue and gold theme, with unique decorations, and dishes inspired by authentic family recipes from the Amalfi Coast. Prices start at AED1,300 per person, including entry to The Gala Di Capodanno’s after party. Call 04 777 5433.
If you haven’t tried this pop-up at the Jumeirah Al Naseem hotel yet, New Year’s Eve could be the time, especially with views of the Burj Al Arab’s fireworks. Enjoy Peruvian-Nikkei dishes by Chef Cristian Goya, including classic sea bass ceviche and saikyo miso black cod. A minimum spend of AED1,200 per person applies. Call 04 432 3232.
A sophisticated evening of jazz, French food and stunning views is the promise of La Serre, located at Vida Downtown. Starting at 8pm, with a minimum spend of AED500 per person, the resident jazz duo, Olga and Ade, take to the stage, with Burj Khalifa fireworks at midnight and a DJ performing until 3am. Catch the Burj Khalifa fireworks display and enjoy some of Chef Izu’s famous creations at The Lighthouse. This stylish venue at the corner of Building 6 in Dubai Design District (d3) has oysters, slow-cooked lamb shank and a range of desserts on its menu, with prices starting from AED350 per person. The restaurant and rooftop lounge at Dubai Opera is another venue offering a New Year’s Eve party with a roaring ’20s theme. Enjoy an oyster bar, cocktails, and such classics as truffle pizza and smoked salmon. The Loft is also serving nitrogen ice cream. The Meydan Hotel
Live musicians are on-hand at the Meydan Hotel’s New Year’s Eve bash, which is free to enter for all hotel and restaurant guests, with a AED200 minimum spend, and is open from midnight-3am. Before that, dine at Farriers or Prime, with package prices starting at AED590, or hang out at the Qube sports bar. Call 04 381 3111.
Nara Pan Asian
At Nara Pan Asian in Jumierah Lakes Towers, you can enjoy six hours of free-flowing fizz, food and fun, with the evening running from 9pm-3am. There are food stations full of Asian favourites – including curries, rice and noodle dishes, fish and crispy duck. Cost is AED499 per person. Call 04 421 1356.
Palazzo Versace Dubai
A party themed around Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is the Palazzo Versace Dubai’s New Year offering. Begin the evening with dinner at one of the hotel’s restaurants, such as Giardino, Vanitas or Enigma, with the dancefloor getting started at 11pm. Sofitel Dubai Downton
Three of the Sofitel’s restaurants will be helping you to see in 2020 with a wealth of cuisine. Above 2.0, Les Cuisines and La Terrace will open up their food stations, offering Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Asian and European dishes, with prices from AED490. There is also a DJ, and views of the Burj Khalifa fireworks. Call 04 503 6111.
Celebrate the Dynasty of the Asian Disco with Shanghai Me, located at The Exchange, Gate Village 11 in DIFC. Disco music had quite the following in Shanghai, and this theme night aims to pay tribute. Enjoy cocktails, bubbles and fine Asian cuisine from 7pm. A minimum spend of AED850 per person is required. Call 04 564 0505.
Waldorf Astoria DIFC
St Trop is the hotel’s 18th floor rooftop lounge, and a great spot to watch the fireworks in Downtown Dubai at midnight. Open from 9pm-3am, there are drinks and a live DJ to help set the mood. Catch a performance by the Cuban Brothers at the W Dubai – The Palm hotel’s WET Deck venue this New Year’s Eve. This hip-hop comedy cabaret quartet have performed all over the world, with fireworks, a DJ and views of the Dubai skyline also part of the night. Cost is AED1,850 per person, including drinks.
