First Look: Aston Martin’s Helicopter Makes Its Debut

A collaboration with Airbus

The partnership between Aston Martin and Airbus was announced in December, but with very few clues as to what it might actually mean. Well, wonder no more, as following a special launch at Courchevel in the French Alps, we have the answer: the ACH130 Aston Martin Edition.

This is the first offering from the partnership, with four unique signature Aston Martin designs available. Basically, the idea is to take all of the luxury elements of an Aston Martin car interior and exterior paint job, and transfer them to one of Airbus’s ACH130 helicopters.

The aeronautical designers at Airbus and the automotive designers at Aston Martin are said to have worked very closely together, bringing a new level of aesthetics and rigorous attention to detail to the helicopter market. Each of the four interior and exterior designs is embellished with Aston Martin signature elements, with the brand’s iconic wings embossed onto the leather used throughout the cabin.

The Stirling Green-themed external scheme, which is the one revealed at the launch, features a painted gradient, fading down into Jet Black on the underside of the helicopter, with Skyfall Silver around the cowlings. Further external liveries are available, with other Aston Martin paint colours, including Xenon Grey, Arizona and Ultramarine Black.

Inside, the automotive-inspired cabin is trimmed in Pure Black ultra-suede, with a palette of selectable leathers comprising Oxford Tan, Pure Black, Cormorant and Ivory. On the rear of the front seats, the same brogue detailing found in a DB11 runs down the centre of the seat, and the doors have been trimmed with leather to provide passengers with comfortable touch points during their flight.

Each of these special edition helicopters will have a plaque included on the instrument panel, showing the partnership logos, the edition number and the owner’s name, should they wish to have it included. Deliveries of the first ACH130 Aston Martin Editions will begin in spring 2020.
