With Ramadan just around the corner, MOJEHMEN speaks to Ashraf, the spa manager at The Residence Maldives about how to stay healthy.

Tell us about yourself.
With a passion for health and wellness, I graduated with a bachelor in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery in 2002 and hold professional certifications in Yoga, Ayurvedic Massage and Panchakarma Therapy and Naturopathy.

I have 10 years of experience having worked in the Caribbean and Seychelles managing the spa and wellness operations. In my current role as the spa manager at the first and only Spa by Clarins at The Residence Maldives, I am responsible for implementing business-driven initiatives and marketing strategies to attract guests, keeping in tune with current spa trends and maintaining the high levels of skill and service at the spa.

I consider myself fortunate and blessed to work in a such a serene and beautiful location at The Residence Maldives, Falhumaafushi where you see and hear the Indian Ocean.

What are your five go to exercises?
1. Squats
2. Deadlifts
3. Push ups
4. Dips
5. Abs Roller

What are your tips for staying on track whilst travelling?
I always try to eat before going to airport. On the flight, I will opt for food such as salads and fruits. Hydration is also very important in a flight. If going to the gym is not possible on holiday, I commit to a simply and quick 20-minute fitness routine in the morning that comprises of my go-to exercises. By balancing the training and diet whilst on holiday and its allows me to quickly to get back on track to my usual routine.

How do you always start your day?
I will start my day with glass of lukewarm water with lemon to cleanse the system followed by yoga stretches and an hour sweating it out at the gym. Breakfast will be based on a high protein and low carbohydrate diet.

What is your healthy go to snack?
Mixed nuts! They provide a delicious dose of protein and fibre!

How do you like to switch off?
Through Meditation and breathing exercises.

What are your favourite workouts to do on the island?
At the overwater Yoga deck located at The Spa by Clarins.
