The 2020 Paula’s Ibiza Collection
Loewe sees escapism and joy as a way to lift our spirits during the current pandemic, and luckily has these themes at the core of its latest Paula’s Ibiza capsule collection. Paula’s is the now-defunct store founded in the 1970s by Armin Heinemenn and Stuart Rudnick, with the Spanish luxury house delving into their print archives, adding a holiday vibe.
Artistic director Jonathan Anderson noted the awkward timing of the arrival of the new line, now in its fourth edition, but hopes that the rave-inspired clothing and accessories – plus a limited-edition fragrance for men and women – can help to see us through.
The accompanying campaign, shot in New Delhi, certainly channels the fun and vibrancy of a healthier, happier time, full of private parties, parkour and BMX riding on rooftops. Acidic neons, faded olive greens and borderline hues of scarlet, Sunrise Orange and Midnight Blue collide, with vibrant prints of mermaids, goldfish, and more.
Hats, caps, visors and bags create a summery feast for the eyes, with long linen tunics, cropped dungarees and bleached jeans, each using specialist handcraft techniques and naturally-occurring materials. Also look to striped aprés-swim overshirts and soft terry tees.
Reflective silver trousers, spiky tops and mini-bomber jackets, complete with day-glo sandals and acetate sunglasses, hint more clearly at clubwear, with playful accessories to match. The Paula’s Ibiza debut fragrance for men and women is a spontaneous, carefree composition, with opposing notes of warm ambergris and fresh coconut water.
And there’s more. Loewe will donate a portion of the proceeds from the collection to educational programmes supporting children affected by the coronavirus. An initial donation of 500,000 Euros will take place, plus 40 Euros for each item sold. Loewe has already made a donation of 100,000 surgical masks to the Spanish Red Cross.
