Collectors, get your wallets ready because only 130 units of the limited edition AMG S 65 Final Edition will be sold. It is also the last time we’ll see a V12 powering an S Class
Just ahead of the Geneva Motor Show 2019, Mercedes-Benz’s performance division, AMG, announced that the last 12-cylinder engine to be produced will be given a proper farewell in the form of a limited edition S Class, which debuted at the motor show earlier today.
The move comes in line with German automakers’ efforts to lower emissions and comply with stricter regulations worldwide. The V12’s replacement, though, will most likely be the turbo-charged V8 petrol-electric hybrid engine that the automaker debuted during the Geneva Motor Show in 2017.
The much-loved V12’s placement in a limited production S Class is the company’s way of giving collectors, enthusiasts, and those who can’t resist twelve cylinders the chance to own a piece of history and be among the few to own one of the last much-revered V12-powered Mercedes cars.
The limited S 65 will come with specially-designed interior details and features, external styling changes that include detailing in a new matte bronze colour and complemented by 20-inch multi-spoke wheels in the same colour.
Other exterior details that highlight the vehicle’s exclusivity include the AMG emblem on the C-pillar as well as tailpipes finished in high-gloss black. Mercedes-AMG will also provide the owners of this very special car with a custom-made indoor car cover decorated with “AMG S 65 FINAL EDITION” lettering in a colour to match the car.
Mercedes-AMG is carrying the exterior design language inside the cabin, too. The interior will be upholstered in an exclusive black nappa leather stitched in copper-tone threads, which is complemented by a carbon fibre trim details highlighted with a factory-configured copper-coloured ambient lighting. Other details include the edition (1 of 130) badge placed on the centre console and an “AMG Edition” badge on the steering wheel.
In terms of interior options, the S 65 Final Edition will come equipped with all the options available on the normal S Class, which include super luxurious options like the panoramic roof control system dubbed the ‘Magic Sky Roof’ and the rear seating set up called the ‘First Class’ rear suite, which is reminiscent of, well, an aeroplane’s first class suite.
Under the bonnet, you’ll find the last production V12 6-litre monster that will, of course, be decorated with the AMG trademark “One Man – One Engine” badge and will be finished in an edition-exclusive black colour. The engine’s performance is meant to meet enthusiasts’ expectations, and it does so by producing 630 horsepower in output and a maximum torque of 1000 newton meters.
