Rami Malek Wins Best Actor for Bohemian Rhapsody at 2019 Golden Globes

Last night, actor Rami Malek took home a Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. The box office hit was the highest-grossing music biopic of all time and won the Golden Globe for Best Picture, Drama.

Dressed in Givenchy, Rami accepted his award last night in Beverly Hill and thanked Queen’s guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor for making sure the movie authentically portrays the great life of Mercury and the band’s legacy. Both May and Taylor worked on set during the production of the film and were present at the award ceremony.

His performance won him the award over other nominees Bradley Cooper, Willem Dafoe, Lucas Hedges, and John David Washington who were nominated within the same category.

Malek, who is the son of Coptic Egyptian immigrants, rose to fame by playing Elliot in the hit TV show Mr Robot. Playing an anti-social computer programmer by day and a vigilante hacker at night, Malek garnered international acclaim and recognition.
