Released next summer
Here’s a trailer to take your breath away. More than 33 years since he last sat in the cockpit, Tom Cruise is back as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell for the long-awaited Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. A new poster was released alongside the latest trailer.
This new instalment sees Maverick working as a test pilot, training a fresh group of Top Gun graduates. One of his students will be Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw (Miles Teller), who happens to be the son of his late friend, Goose.
It may be 33 years later, but beach volleyball and singing loudly in bars still have quite the following, according to the trailer at least. Maverick also continues to ride around on his motorbike, wearing aviator sunglasses and no crash helmet.
In addition to Cruise and Teller, the movie stars Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm and Ed Harris. Fans of the original will also be pleased to see Val Kilmer return as Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky, a former rival of Maverick’s, now a fellow instructor.
Top Gun: Maverick will be released in June 2020. It should be quite the summer for 1980s nostalgia, with Ghostbusters: Afterlife out too.
