Mrs. Fattahi-Dasmal has been instrumental in the strategic growth of the brand under the auspices of The Grooming Company, which includes N.Bar and JetSet as well as 1847. The brand and its services were developed for the modern man on the go. 1847 as a concept was ahead of its time and introduced prestige men’s grooming services to the wider male population in Dubai.
What are the essential skin care products every guy needs?
There are a few essential grooming products that every man should have in his repertoire. A face wash or cleanser is crucial to remove daily dirt, excess oil and surface bacteria. This should be complemented with a face scrub/exfoliator, which we recommend using once or twice a week to remove dead skin cells and unblock clogged pores.
From your mid-Thirties, adopting an eye gel or cream, in order to tackle puffiness and dark circles under the eye area can also have good benefits.
A good moisturiser is a must and daily usage prevents skin from ageing prematurely and mitigates the appearance of wrinkles, pigmentation, redness and age spots.
How important is moisturising to skincare?
The key is to choose the right moisturiser for your skin type and to use it regularly from your late teens onwards whilst adopting a suitable product according to your own skin needs and age. Dry skin should be treated with a cream moisturiser (a heavier texture than a lotion). Meanwhile, normal skin and those who live in extreme heat, should use a lotion. We recommend applying a fluid or gel moisturiser for an oily skin. Using the wrong product could be detrimental as it could possibly cause outbreaks or even cause itching and sensitivity issues. Moisturisers with a sun protection factor (SPF) will protect your skin from the sun particularly in the UAE. Always try to purchase a moisturiser with an SPF of 15 or higher. Alternatively, add an SPF on top of your moisturiser.
What’s your guide for flawless skin?
The guide to achieving flawless skin entails a daily regime, persistence and care. Using the aforementioned products are an essential asset to arm you in the fight against premature aging and hyper-pigmentation for instance. The specialists at 1847 can help guide you as to which products are right for your skin.
Genetics definitely play a large part in whether you are pre-disposed to even skin tone and skin that does not form deep lines and wrinkles from your Thirties. The universal rules such as drinking at least a litre and half of water each day, staying out of the sun, cleansing on a daily basis, exfoliating once a week, using a moisturiser and sunscreen suited to your skin type and (last but not least) learning how to shave properly. Shaving in the direction of your beard growth and doing so with a natural bristle brush and cream as opposed to an electric shaver achieves a closer and cleaner shave. It can help enormously to moisturise before shaving or to use a pre-shave oil which will also aid in achieving less irritated skin.
How often do you recommend a facial?
Professionally we recommend a facial on a monthly basis as the benefits are much more noticeable with regular professional services. Our Essential Facial is perfect for maintaining clear and healthy looking skin and a once a month appointment at the same time as your haircut for instance is recommended.
What kind of special treatments does 1847 offer?
1847 offers a menu of specially formulated treatments. Uniquely each one is individually tailored to the specific needs of our guests as opposed to one treatment using the same products for each client. This approach results in a much more targeted and beneficial results of each service.
One of them is the GENTLEMEN’S TONIC from our facial treatments, it includes deep facial cleansing and exfoliation. The cleansing and exfoliation in turn opens pores allowing a deeper extraction. It also unblocks clogged pores creating a refreshed and much clearer and brighter skin. In addition, it facilitates the production of collagen and accelerates cell renewal.
Another special treatment is the YOUNG MASTER’S FACIAL that is specifically designed for late teenagers who maybe prone to a problematic skin due, in part, to hormonal changes. The treatment relieves the congested skin, improves its tone, clarity and overall complexion leading to a much clearer and healthier skin. An important aspect of the YOUNG MASTER’S FACIAL is to educate youngsters on the importance of adopting a thorough skin care routine from an early age and helping them to tackle typical teenage and hormonal skin problems.
Living in the Middle East means exposure of the skin to extreme climate conditions. How should we manage the effects of this on a daily basis?
Living in this region brings its own challenges as far as the exposure to extremes on the skin. The extreme heat that can reach 40 degrees in the height of the summer months, as well as the UVA/UVB effects of the sun and up to 90 per cent humidity and very cool air-conditioning, all acts to confuse the skin and has a detrimental effect, which often leads to extreme dryness and dehydration. A moisturiser plus a high SPF factor is vital and needs to be applied regularly when going outside. It is crucial to remember to reapply sunscreen at least every two hours. Another simple, yet effective, method is to wear a hat at all times while outdoors. Last but not least, it is wise to minimise your skin exposure to the sun between the peak hours of 12:00pm and 3:00pm.
