“Skiiers! Get out of the way!” This is the kind of thing you might have expected to hear shouted from the slopes of Ski Dubai recently, as Pirelli demonstrated its exclusive winter tyres by fitting them to a McLaren GT Sprint and sending it up the slopes. But luckily, this was after-hours, so the coast was clear.
Pirelli has long been a world-leading tyre manufacturer, and a global symbol of Italian industrial excellence. The stunt saw its winter compound tyre zooming up the 85m slope at Ski Dubai, and ended with a skier executing a heart-stopping jump over the car.
Always ready to provide the right tyres in a range of extreme conditions, Pirelli prides itself on offering exceptional control. The Dragon Racing McLaren GT Sprint had professional UAE racing driver Saeed Al Mehairi at the wheel, while skier Abdullah Al Mehairi performed the jump.
Alberico Avogadro, managing director of Pirelli Middle East, said, “Saeed Al Mehairi pushed the car to the absolute limit on the ski slope – terrain that you would not normally expect a supercar to be comfortable on. But the car handled exceptionally well, and stayed completely under Saeed’s control, allowing Abdullah to execute the jump.”
Saeed Al Mehairi added, “At the speed I was driving at, and with the terrain involved, Pirelli’s tyres made me feel extremely secure and safe. There was a tremendous amount of grip that I was enjoying on the slippery surface, and the tyres responded well on the snow, making the whole stunt a very memorable experience.”
Dragon Racing International, based at Dubai Autodrome, which provided the McLaren GT Sprint, is the go-to solution for motorsport activity within the GCC. It also operates driver experiences at Yas Marina Circuit.
