Bars and pubs screening the matches

Friday, September 20 is the day it all starts – the 2019 Rugby World Cup. Taking place in Japan, that means six weeks of drama, 20 teams and 48 matches, with the final held on Saturday, November 2. Japan vs Russia is the first game of the tournament, while reigning champions New Zealand play South Africa on Saturday, September 21.

So the questions is, where will you be watching the Rugby World Cup in Dubai? There are some great bars to choose from, with promotions and deals galore. Here are our highlights. Let the games begin!

Barasti Middle Deck

Barasti

The popular Dubai haunt at Le Méridien Mina Seyahi was always going to pull out the stops for the Rugby World Cup – it is also pulling out the Astroturf, turning its middle deck into a rugby pitch for the duration of the event. There will be rugby-themed games and activations too, as well as giveaways, face painting, outdoor air-conditioning, a giant outdoor screen, and the chance to win a trip to Japan for the final.

The Irish Village

Another Dubai institution, The Irish Village in Garhoud will be offering the chance to catch the games on the screens inside its air-conditioned tent. The good news is that the opening weekend of the Rugby World Cup also coincides with The Irish Village’s Oktoberfest celebrations, featuring a German live band and DJ, and Bavarian food and drinks. A multicultural experience, just like the Rugby World Cup.

The Webb Ellis Cup

McGettigan’s

This Irish chain will screen the Rugby World Cup at its locations in the Madinat Jumeirah and the Dubai World Trade Centre. Wear your country’s jersey if they are playing and claim a free drink. During the matches, the happy hour will be extended, and there is even a competition with tickets to the final in Japan up for grabs, including flights and hotels – just buy three drinks over three matches to be entered into the draw.

Offside Sports Bar

Head to this JA Ocean View Hotel venue in Jumeirah Beach Residence every Thursday of the Rugby World Cup (and until November 30) for its Rugby Raffle. Spend AED200 on food and drink to get a raffle ticket, with a number of prizes on offer, including AED500 bar tabs, hotel stays, Abu Dhabi F1 tickets, Dubai Rugby 7s tickets, and tickets to the 2020 Hong Kong Rugby 7s, including flights and accommodation.

Perry & Blackwelder’s

This smokehouse in the Madinat Jumeirah has some great deals on during the Rugby World Cup. On game days, its all-day and all-American breakfasts are supersized for just AED85 each. Or give its ‘Manwich’ a try for AED75. In terms of drinks, six bottles are AED135, a dozen are AED250, and pitchers are AED99. Add to the fun with unlimited wings for AED199, and win prizes in the ‘Excuse for Missing Work’ challenge.
