The annual festival at Dubai Design District (d3)
One of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, Wu-Tang Clan are headed to Dubai in December for Sole DXB. The event takes place from December 5-7 at Dubai Design District (d3), with the New York artists performing on the final night. Currently celebrating 25 years in the business, the group recently performed at the UK’s Glastonbury Festival.
But there is more to experience at Sole DXB – now in its eighth year. This annual event, themed around street culture, and bringing together music, art and fashion, has many other international and local artists lined up, with help from sponsors Cadillac, Fred Perry, Puma and Adidas Originals.
On Friday, December 6, catch Nigerian singer Burna Boy. Then Saturday, in addition to Wu-Tang Clan, brings Black Star to the stage – the duo of yasiin bey and Talib Kweli, who celebrate 20 years of working together.
Jamaican sensation Koffee will be on the main stage for her first performance in the region, along with Grammy-nominated artist Protoje. Also catch Lila Ike and Sevana, and Maryland rapper and Puma global brand ambassador YBN Cordae, who will perform tracks on the Friday from his debut studio album, The Lost Boy.
Other Friday performers include London’s ‘Godfather of Grime’ Wiley, with Ocean Wisdom joining Sole DXB for his Middle East debut. The following day, see Washington DC rapper Rico Nasty, and be sure to catch Dave East; Xharlie Black (the new alias of Eddie Cole) with his jazz-inspired hip-hop; Montreal-based Iraqi artist Narci; and Foreign Beggars from London. Dubai-based artist TAC will perform too.
Doors open on Thursday, December 5 from 6pm-10pm. Timings on the two remaining days are noon-10pm. Weekend passes are AED375, or a day pass is AED245.
